A common issue on the BMW E36 chassis is cracking around the factory trunk latch mounting points. Over time, repeated opening and closing of the trunk can fatigue the thin sheet metal surrounding the two latch mounting bolts, leading to cracks, loose latch alignment, or further damage to the trunk lid.
